Late bloomer: Edward Horton was 40 when this movie came out. "Nutcracker" was a short: "A henpecked husband fakes amnesia after being hit by a streetcar." Hence the bandages. And saxophone.
He had a long career; his face and voice were distinctive, his persona mild and amusing without being sharp or disagreeable. I'd love to go back in time and tell him: in 2012, that impossibly distant year, people will remember you for the voice of a cartoon you won't do for another 40 years. Of course he'd be pleased.
The cartoon, of course, was "Rocky and Bullwinkle." He narrated the Fractured Fairy Tales."
The man had some experience with squirrels.
