The Armstrong company began as a cork maker, as you can tell from the name. Cork dust is one ingredient in linoleum, some of the others being linum (Latin for flax) and oleum, or “oil.” Linoleum means Flax-oil. Not what you think of when you think “synthetic flooring.”
