We think zippers have A) been around forever, and B) always called “zippers.” Not so. The “Talon Slide Fastener” A major player in the international zipper wars, Talon started in Chicago then moved to Meadville PA. As Wikipedia puts it in classic Wikipedia fashion:

Many locals believe YKK Group played behind the scenes roles to ruin the company so they could recoup the business to Japan.[citation needed]

The company has been through changes, ownerships, and names - but it’s back to Talon now.

Zipper-making, by the way, was filthy business.
