| 42nd and 5th. I knew this one had a fabled history, but I couldnt find the picture in my reference books. Thanks to Bill, Sissy, and other members of the George Army who filled in the details.
Nevermind that castle in the foreground - look at the three-story pile to the left of the center. Its the Morton House, built around 1860. It belonged to Levi P. Morton, Veep of the US from 1889-93, and later ambassador to France. (He received the Statue of Liberty on behalf of the US.) (Symbolically, of course.) The photo below shows the addition - the building became a commercial property and a hotel later in life. The Ghost Photo is next. |
