Ill admit its a curious premise for a site: buildings that arent there. Ive seen these things for years, and theyve never really caught my interest. Theres a famous example on 42nd and 5th that always irritated me - build something there already! But the last time I went to New York I paid a little more attention, and noticed some details, some signs the buildings had left behind. You can detect the outline of stairs, of fireplaces, see the black smoke left behind by long-gone chimneys. In a way these buildings still exist, defined by the outlines engraved on their neighbors.
In another very real way, of course, these buildings do not exist, and you would be well advised not to rent an office in any of them. So far Ive four to offer; more in the years to come, perhaps. |
