Madison Square. The view from the Met Life tower? A balloon? The New York Life Insurance building, perhaps. Here you see the Flatiron, which was never that white, and the poetically named Fifth Avenue Office building, which was, and is. (The Fifth Av. office building replaced - altogether now - the Fifth Avenue Hotel, which was the first in New York to have elevators.) I've made annual pilgrammages to this big squat bastard for years - it's now the headquarters of the Toy Manufacturers of America: every damn floor is stuffed with toy companies and showrooms. Most of the building retains its old charm - there are a few modernizations, but it somehow managed the usual ruination buildings of this era suffered in the 50s. A building of equal size now sits across the street; they're joined by a skyway ten floors up. You can sit there and watch the park below. Very nice.
