From Target comics, 1940.
Where to begin? We have a superhero with two names: Manowar, the White Streak. How do we know he’s the white streak? Simple: by his red and blue costume, and the red rays that shoot out of his yellow head. Duh. His origin is rather underwhelming, too; “during the Great War in South America” – apparently the French and Germans opened up another front in Venezuela – “a hill rose from a dead volcano.” That’s evocative. Look! Rising up from that dead volcano! Could it be – do my eyes deceive – is it a hill? The professor discovers a preserver of breaking of warmongers, appropriately named Manowar, who promptly meted. Note an early occurrence of the ol’ blood-for-oil meme. In 1940! Remarkable.
Anyway, the professor invites Manowar the White Streak – who’s probably also called Chapocombat The Green Helmet – to the United States; Manowar agrees, since it might prove the existence of something called “interesting simms.” No blood for single inline memory modules!
Off they go.
