This is the 1958 incarnation. My father banked here for many years, and I loved to come here with him. The tellers were nice and they gave me Life Savers. A five-piece roll with an encouragement to save money, should I ever get some.

Once again, it’s not the most graceful piece of Modernism, and if it had replaced the Waldorf hotel,  it wouldn’t have been a fair trade. But the Waldorf had the foresight to burn down, so this was better than a vacant lot. It was also more impressive when the sign gave the name of the establishment instead of the address – which appears to have been painted by hand. Unfortunately.

On the left: The side courtyard, with the ever-popular monochromatic jumble  o’ stone. The official name for this design is "badly defragmented hard drive."
