The sign was changed again; the entrance modernized, and the restaurant rechristened the Stream Diner. The marquee now promised that modern marvel, Air Conditioned Food, and held fothr the alluring promise of Beverage Rooms. It’s a beautiful updating, and makes the street look more cosmopolitan than anything in Fargo today. I love this picture, and I would like to visit the Stream Diner late at night - even though I know the place would be filled with lanky yokels, lonely businessmen, and fat travelling salesmen with oily hair filling out paperwork, wishing the coffee was better and the bedsprings didn't squeal.

Below: the doors of the Gardner today. At least one small piece of the modernization remains. And here's an ad from 1952. Call Inga! Inga of the Gardner!
