We end here, on a motel built at the edge of town by the new interstate freeway. The Biltmore name is venerable in the lodging industry, and obviously not copyrighted. It’s also incomplete: built more than what? The sign does a nice job of referring to the Holiday Inn Ideal without really stealing it, although you could make a good case for attempted robbery. It’s still there, but under another name, and the sign – like the glory days of the great Fargo hotels – is gone.
