Fargoans will note that something’s missing: the big department store at the end of the block, DeLendrecie’s. It’s there – it’s just a mere two stories tall. I love this picture – the buildings seem like the individual characters, and in a way they were; behind each was a guy who rounded up the money and staked out a plot on Front Street, the fastest growing street in North Dakota!

Of course, the business district promptly moved north up Broadway, but for a while, this was the Miracle Mile. At the end of the block you see the Waldorf hotel, which we’ll meet later.
