The statue still exists. (Note to self: take long shot next trip.) It was erected in 1916 to honor the Civil War vets. That fellow’s up high, and it’s hard to make out his features even in the best light. In this view he seems to be looking down at us, as though expecting we will return his gaze with resolute appreciation.

That's quite a lot of gun, when you think about it.
