Imagine two airlines serving a town, each with its own airport: that’s how it was in the days of trains. A few blocks south of the Great Northern Station was its counterpart, the Northern Pacific.
The depot was built in 1898 in the heart of the commercial district - which, of course, promptly moved north. This view looks west, from Broadway, towards the Pacific. I can’t explain the two guys on the left. Okay, Hal, spend all day looking at a utility pole if you like, but I’m getting some lunch. In the dead center of the card you see the NP logo, borrowed from the yin-yang symbol. Not that any of us knew that growing up, of course.
