The glory days of bus-travel, like so many other things, came after the war and before the jet. The Scenicruiser was a GM bus based on a Raymond Loewy design – yes, the man who designed trains, pencil sharpeners, cigarette packs, and anything else that could be streamlined. (He didn’t do coffins, but probably because no one asked; he probably doodled some sleek curvy gravestones, though.)
We laugh at these today – hah! The bus, luxurious and sensational? But it was, and In the days before a complete new smooth highway system, promising a smooth ride with clean bathrooms helped attract families.
The bathrooms were never quite that large, though. |
