The name came from a "Learn to Dance At Home" manual Brassefort purchased. He was more intrigued with the patterns suggested by the illustrations than the actual dancing itself, although he later noted that "people are inclined to like an abstract painting if it has a highly specific name taken from a different context. This has little to do with actual foxtrotting, and if you attempted to dance like this, you would be striking foreheads repeatedly."
