Incredible - Blackstone does it, using only the power of magic and a ring around his neck attached to the lightbulb, and magic! But mostly the ring around his neck.

A later spin-off about Blackstone as a kid - SuperMagicianBoy - wasn't very successful, and neither was SuperMagicianDog. But a series of comics set in Bizarro World, where magic was normal and Bizarro Super Magician lit lightbulbs by plugging them into sockets, ran for 274 issues.

Blackstone, SUPER MAGICIAN, was of course based on the non-super magician Harry Blackstone. He was the bee's knees in his time, a cultured, elegant presence in a white suit. One of his most famous acts consisted of levitating a "magic" light bulb around the stage. It was designed by Edison, and now resides in the Smithsonian. He spent his last years performing at the Magic Castle in LA, and died in '65 - something I wish I'd known a few months ago, as I found myself on a ship in January 2011 talking to a fellow who owned the Magic Castle.
