| The earliest Art in the collection. It’s nice to know his special brand of narrative incoherence was established early in his career. In cheesecake, if a woman’s reading a book, she’s usually reacting to the Shocking Story. (We can tell it’s a mystery, because she’s not giving us a grin and a wink; that would indicate she’s reading a Spicy Story.) Here Art doubles up on the reasons for her reaction: the book, and the cat. Makes no sense. Neither does wearing those shoes while you’re reclining, come to think of it - but you gotta get the footwear in somehow here. It’s probably in the contract: strapless slip-on high-heeled shoes, OR ELSE. |
