Oh, Shit (1944)
As the proverb says: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and ends with a single impalement.
It is unclear what is happening here - only that something bad is about to happen in a short period of time. This picture hails from a time before safety glass, air bags, seat belts, extensive social disapproval of drunk driving, helicopter airlifts to the hospital, and dashboards whose sheet-metal edges guaranteed brisk decapitation. In short, these people are hosed.
Then again, perhaps the couple has just realized that the knob of the radio has broken, and they will be listening to Dr. Laura bludgeon her supplicant callers for the next three hours. Or theyve just spotted Tom Green in the middle of the road, and have realized that no matter how hard they yank the wheel, they wont hit him.
