This makes me feel cold. I can well imagine Mr. Harman swinging a pick in November, trying to break the hard Kansas dirt so he could put in a tank. Or take one out. Did he haul water or tanks, as well? Did one H handle the tanks, and the other H handle water hauling? Does the ancient bit of art on the spine “Oh! Boy! We Clean ‘Em” apply to the tanks or the pheasants depicted on the back?

Chase, Kansas, is not in Chase county. It’s in Rice county. The county was named for Salmon P, so I assume the city was as well. A biography of the notable townspeople c. 1883 can be found here.
