Emery Roth's famous St. Moritz hotel. Built in 1930 at the end of the boom, its style can be described as a "butt-ugly heap of bricks." Not one of Emery's finest moments -the uper stories are rather graceless, and the tower is just a tower.

I would have liked to go to the Maroon Club, though - and isn't it odd how a couple of throwaway lines in a Bugs Bunny cartoon, repeated over 50 years, have changed the meaning of this word for many of us. What a maroon! Hence the Maroon Club would be full of idiots and halfwits.
