Historically it was referred to as the "Pottery Capital of the World" due to the large number of potteries in the city; due to changes in the industry, now there are just three left in the area.

From 1870 through 1890, the US Census showed that the city more than doubled in population each decade, as it attracted new industrial workers with the growth of the pottery industry. By 1910, it had more than 20,000 people. East Liverpool once produced more than half of the United States's annual ceramics output. Throughout East Liverpool's ceramics history, there were more than 300 potteries.

 

WOHI is now a classic hits format. The town has shrunk to 11,000 people.
