Good ol' Marty; looks like Poe's more successful and well-adjusted brother. Had some interesting events, including a Financial Panic in 1837.Wikipedia:
The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major recession that lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices and wages went down while unemployment went up. Pessimism abounded during the time.
Things were going great before then, though. Then they weren't. Then they were going great again! Then - well, see "Panic of 1857."
As for that war between Canada and Maine: a border dispute, and Wikipedia notes "the term 'war' was rhetorical; local militia units were called out but never engaged in combat. The event is best described as an international incident."
Also known as the "Pork and Beans War." Which reminds me: so far, no McConnon's remedy for "wind."
