| From the JFK library website:
"The Alliance for Progress - Alianza para el Progreso - was described by President Kennedy as "a vast cooperative effort, unparalleled in magnitude and nobility of purpose, to satisfy the basic needs of the American people for homes, work and land, health and schools - techo, trabajo y tierra, salud y escuela." The Alliance for Progress initiative focused on maintaining democratic government, on industrial and agrarian development, and on more equitable distribution of wealth."
The first-day issue spells the Spanish version differently, but what the hey.
Logos like that used to unnerve me when I was a child. There seemed to be a great many disembodied fists present in advertising and graphic arts. Nightmare kindling. And when I have finished thrusting up from Chile, I will take this torch and burn the world!
