"Brazilian journalist, teacher and poet, whose poetry reflected her views of the fragility of life. Cecilia Meireles wrote in Portuguese. She is considered one of the most important poets of the second phase of the Brazilian Modernist. Meireles travelled a great deal and her travelling became an integral part of her literary production. As a teacher she did much to promote educational reforms. She also advocated the construction of children's libraries."
