The back says “Unidade Nacional,” and I’m not sure what that means– “National Unit” is what my Portuguese translator says. Those were the days when smoke-belching factories were a sign of Progress! And Prosperity! And Payoffs, I suppose. Vargas was big on industrial development, so perhaps that’s the link. Or maybe he secretly bred a race of giant workers who knelt down every day and sang love songs to train axles. Maybe the giant is holding the National Unit. Maybe the giant symbolizes the ol' National Unit, if you know what I mean. I have no idea.
