PIER 66, Ft. Lauderdale FL

What is a hotel tower doing on a motel site? Because most of this place consists of two-story wings of rooms with a corridor open to the elements. Lots of palms and faux stones.

I stayed here in 2014. It had some of its sixties hallmarks, as you se in the stone on the left. It also had a big 80s-style rehab that gave it a late Miami-Vice vibe. It's now a Hyatt Regency, and the landing page for the place says it's "set on 22 landscaped acres." I'll take their word for that. Probably true; it was quite a hike from my room to the lobby.

I remember torrential rains the day we set out to sea. I liked it. But I always like setting out to sea.
