RIVIERA, Joplin MO

There's a Sonic on the site today. It has a style that's meant to remind you of the heyday of roadside architecture, but it's ersatz. This is the real thing, right here. Wonder if they tore it down just to build the Sonic.

Few of the patrons, sitting in their cars munching those onion rings and thinking "Do I detect the tantilizing hint of vanilla?" probably thinks the space was once occupied by a pool, complete with bathing beauties.

They had a lot of people at the pool the day the postcard was shot. No guests at the motel, but lots of swimmers.
