ADMIRAL BENBOW, Chattanooga TN

Another example of this small and forgotten chain. Benbow's life would make for a fascinating movie, although it lacks a heroic ending. His wikipedia bio says he died of "A melancholy of the mind," although a poorly-set shattered leg may have been a contributing factor.

The swimming-pool tableau has the sense of mystery common to motel postcards - the redhead who's the star of the show, the man on the left staring daggers at his rival, the office worker with a farmer tan, the woman oblivious to the looming drama, and a shadowy figure in the background, observing it all.
