Bridge Square Postcard
The oldest shot I have - a postcard showing a summer parade for the war vets. Civil War, that is. It’s not that old - several subsequent buildings can be seen in the sooty distance.

The building in the center - the Flatiron of the Midwest! - was the City Hall, built in 1873, designed by Franklin Long. The Tribune, which, like the City government, still exists, also occupied the building. It was supposedly lavish for the time, but it was a poorly ventilated firetrap. It went up in flames in 1912, clearing the way for Gateway Park.
