The waiting room, obviously. There was another waiting room upstairs where you could watch the street, and it's hard to think anyone would chose this space over that one. But apparently they did; some people just need to be close to the door, close to the sign that announces the next departure, lest the bus leave town without them.

This station closed down in the early 60s, I believe; Greyhound built a new operation a few blocks away, and it was modern in an early / mid 60s style. It had its virtues, but it was dull, and the general sadness that pervades bus stations seeped into the terazzo floors and brickwork. It was demolished this year, and a new depot is under construction.
