I love this picture - it's so noisy. You can imagine the clop of the horse-hooves, the clang and clatter of the street car, the throaty roar and farty backfire of the cars. It looks hot. It looks unbearably hot.
On the left corner, Martha Washington candies and the New Peking Cafe. (Chow Mein!) The photo has no notes explaining why it was taken, or what story it might have illustrated. There was a fire in 1906 - eleven died - but they'd cleaned up and repainted by the time this was taken.
