The death of the streetcar line foretold: apparently it was quite the rage to drive your car up to the shore and walk about in a suit. Note also the evidence that cars did not just come in black, but in copper and neon-avocado.

Minneapolitans will note that this scene bears no resemblace to modern times, and that everything in it is gone or changed, except for the small black dot in the upper center of the picture: that's the bridge spanning the lagoon between Calhoun and Lake of the Isles. This is the beach seen in the main index picture - in the old days, the main beach curved along the north side of the lake. The area was turned into a parking area and grassy park in the late 80s.
