In the 80s Minneapolis gained three indoor multi-level shopping centers, and everyone thought they were just the latest thing. But anyone who shopped Minneapolis in the old days recalled the Loeb Arcade, the original shopping court, built in 1914 and destroyed in '67.

This is a view of the 5th Street facade. Nothing particularly lovely, although I wish I had some closeups of those medallions above the second floor. Originally, the building had a peculiar ill-proportioned pediment, but they were removed for the extra floor.

Note the signs for Ed Johnson's Luncheonette, long gone, and McGlynn's bakery. The latter is still with us - it's a local supplier to department and grocery stores, and still enjoys a minor reputation as a local baker.
