This picture doesn’t do the corner justice, though – swing around in the little Google map box to see what it looks like now. It’s still an interesting corner – but the Temple doesn’t seem to be particularly lively, does it? The dark windows give it a sense of reserve and caution, and whatever hoo-hah transpires in the ground-floor bars doesn’t spill out into the street.

The structure on the right is the Schubert theater, which sits almost in the location of the Unique. It was dragged two blocks from another site, so they could build the regrettable Block E.
