| 1914 map of the lower Dinkytown, authors collection. (Man! I love saying that.) The yellow buildings are wooden houses; the red structures are brick. A few buildings here still stand - in fact, the intersection of 14th and 4th is completely intact today. The College Inn still stands. In the upper-left corner a small note indicates the site of the Christian Science church. One of the great unsung architectural tragedies of the 80s: this church was gigantic - not the loveliest building in town, but a calm noble citizen in the neighborhood. They knocked it down and replaced it with a small cheap structure that makes me wince to this day. This is the top edge of the map, and it cuts off the rest of Dinkytown. Drat the luck. |
