This one isn't a complete loss - the church still stands. The tower is gone. Built in '28, knocked down in '86, the tower was part of an ambitious plan to construct a "sky church" - an office block incorporating a church. These were all the rage in the 20s. I know of four that were attempted - this one, the Ivy Tower (also in Minneapolis,) the Chicago Temple - which sported a Gothic church growing out of its top like some sort of skin disease - and the Broadway Temple of New York. In most cases they just built one wing, maybe two. They built one small corner of the Ivy Tower complex, two wings of the Broadway Temple, and one wing of the Wesley Church complex.. This wing was supposed to flank a 30-story tower. It didn't happen. Next: better pictures.
