Show this ad to someone of a particular age, and they get it, right away; I’m not sure your Gen Y’ers pick up the reference. But in 1959, everyone knew a basic fact of mental health: Most crazy people thought they were Napoleon. (There was even a popular song about the condition: “They’re Coming To Take Me Away,” a tune that would be banned these days for its incorrect depiction of mental illness.) Crazy people were usually shown like this: in a restraint, eyes wide, mouth split by a loony smile, wearing a Napoleon hat the asylum had thoughtfully provided.
