This is the city, as Joe Friday used to say. In 1963 the TV show “Route 66” shot three episodes in Minneapolis, and two contain some wonderful pictures of downtown. The skyline has changed a good deal, swallowing up most of those buildings, but they’re still there. The bridge is the Third Avenue bridge; the building on the lower right-hand corner is the old Coca-Cola bottling plant, built on the site of the Industrial Exposition Building, which hosted the 1892 GOP Convention. The site’s occupied by Very Large Condos now.

Let’s head into town.
