Two of the great Five-and Dime chains on the right. Grants performed some interesting financial auto-immolation, and left no particular architecture anywhere. Kress did better - and consequently, their buildings survive more often than you'd expect.  
          The building on the left - a nice piece of 40s / 50s architecture - is gone. Pity: it looks like a rather idiosyncratic piece of work.
