Better Homes & Gardens, Oct. 1959

Oh ho, you say: a short page must mean I’m slacking off. Putting the feet up. In a sense, yes; I confess to enjoying today’s wonderful autumnal gifts – something I won’t try to describe, since autumn is the one season that can never be captured in word or image. It has an indefinable quality you simply must inhabit. I will say that my world currently resembles those neighborhoods you see in movies that want to evoke bittersweet perfection with a fatal flaw. You know what I mean – the movie opens on a street that’s “urban” but not, you know, urban – pre-war houses, big trees, lots of kids on trikes, golden leaves above and below, golden labs romping on the lawns, smart mom (career temporarily on hold) and smart dad (assistant US attorney general, or something). Once upon a time such a sight told you everything was okay. Now it tells you something is about to go wrong. Aliens, serial killers, secret covert government plans, whatever.

Anyway: it’s like that here.

A
new addition to the site: weekly “podcasts,” as the kids call them. They’ll be short – six minutes – and that’s about all I can say. This one might be called “something to do between the time when Gnat took the bus and I went to work, and something you can listen to if you want.” I intend to perfect the idea as time goes on. This weekend I will perfect the RSS feeds for all the relevant areas; until then, the 6.7 MB inaugural installment is here.

The weekly site addition is finally up: four pages added to Patriotica.

Heh: I have a Strib link now! And it has the wrong name. Ah well.

So that should be enough, no? C’mon: six minutes of talk, four pages of site update, a Strib column. For God’s sake let me go to bed now! See you Monday; have a fine weekend.
