After the success of War #1 and War #2, this work was seen as a disappointment- unfocused, hectic without an underlying scheme. Londres Pipier advised him to withdraw it from showings. It is now regarded as a prefiguration of Mondrian's own "Broadway Boogie-Woogie," painted decades later.
