As our story begins, Miss Sunbeam is pushing a slice on her pig-nosed brother Tommy, who balks at the idea; bread, it seems, lacks a backstory.
In the next panel, Tommy has developed a beer gut and Mongoloid features. His sister upbraids him for insufficient appreciation of bread and all it entails. Tommy still balks -
- which prompts the bread to come to life, sprout limbs and facial features, and insist they accompany him to learn why bread should be eaten and enjoyed. Of course, this spontaneous animation would convince anyone not to eat bread; one would only imagine his screams as our sharp teeth bit deep into his flesh. The assumption of compliance on the part of bread is part of the sandwich experience, after all.
