Today, class, we will learn about Canastota, New York. Not a big town, it seems, although it puts nearby Clockville in the shade. The White Elephant restaurant occupied a building once inhabited by a woman primly known as Miss Julie Perkins; it was once the local library before Andrew Carnegie chipped in ten grand to build a proper one.

About the restaurant I can't find much. It burned down years ago. In the previous version of this site, I said: "But part of it survives: according to a comment on this site, the elephant in this picture of Canastota was part of the restaurant. How about that."

Links are dead. Not even what survived survives.
