The other Smitty's. This one had legs. I remember this place - it was in downtown Fargo, I think, and we went there after church for pancakes. The walls were decorated with those smily plate-faces. Am I making all this up?

It's possible. My 1963 Fargo phone book doesn't have an entry, but it could have come along later. In any case: Smitty's was a chain that specialized in pancakes. They licensed the name and the pancake formula; some intrepid investors built another chain with the formula, and eventually that chain absorbed Smitty's.

You might have heard of them: Perkins.
